As we reach the midpoint of October, it’s weird that Nintendo hasn’t said much of anything with regards to the NX, other than that it will be coming out sometime in March of 2017. To put it nicely, Nintendo has been pretty tight-lipped. This is sort of an odd move considering that they now only have 5 months to create an exceptional marketing campaign to entice gamers to buy their new gaming console. They’ve even went the extra mile to hunker down on anyone who even tries to mention any little tidbit regarding the NX. According to Nintendo Life, during a promotional event for the game, Yo-Kai Watch 2, the communications manager of Nintendo of Canada, Andrew Collins, basically averted any questions related to the NX. Here is a brief part of the discussion that took place:
McFerran, Damien. Random: Nintendo Censors Canadian Interview For Daring To Mention NX. Digital image. Nintendo Life. Gamer Network, 27 Sept. 2016. Web. 12 Oct. 2016.
Even though Andrew Collins didn’t share any specific details on the upcoming hardware, Nintendo still decided to delete this part of the interview since they thought it exposed too much information. While I am sort of annoyed that Nintendo is being so cryptic about the NX, I think that they are handling this better than how Sony did for the Ps4 Pro reveal. A lot of the attributes and feature surrounding the Pro were already leaked a couple of months beforehand. So when it came time for them to unveil the next Ps4 iteration, the reception was pretty tepid since people already knew what to expect. While for the NX, the amount of hype around it is only going to keep on growing until it’s reveal since Nintendo fans will be continually speculating on the specs and games that will be on the next console, even if the long wait leaves them feeling disgruntled.

In other news, some recent information regarding the NX might have finally surfaced. This isn’t confirmed by Nintendo, so take this with a grain of salt. According to an employee that claims to be associated with a large retail firm, he posted on the Nintendo NX subreddit, with details pertaining to the hardware specs, pricing, and bundle choices for the new system. The post claimed that the NX will run at 60fps and 1080p while playing at home, while the portable aspect of the NX will be at 900p. It also mentioned the possibility of 4K streaming. The leaker also went on to say that the Nintendo NX will release with two varying prices – a $299.99 for the base model, and a bundle option that will cost $399.99. He also said that the games will be on cartridges, and at least four titles will be available at launch, with one of them being The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and a currently unnamed Mario title. With this kind of information out and about, I think the NX unveiling is just around the corner.
